Licence Information

From Sept 2014 all LGV drivers MUST complete The Driver CPC Training course before they can apply for a licence to drive any LGV.

The Driver CPC is for LGV and PCV drivers who drive professionally throughout the UK. It has been developed as a requirement of the EU Directive 2003/59, which is designed to improve the knowledge and skills of professional LGV and PCV drivers throughout their working life.

LGV Licence Details

If you passed your car test before January 1997 then you probably have C1 entitlement on your car licence.

Drivers aged 18 or over without C1 entitlement can skip a grade and go straight to LGV C.

You must pass LGV C before obtaining C+E. Holding your full LGV C, with provisional C+E entitlement, you can progress easily on to C+E without delay with our Articulated Truck with 13.6 meter twin axle Trailer.

The DSA permits LGV C licence holders to obtain a full Manual PCV licence by passing a test on a PCV automatic coach.

PCV Licence Details

You may already hold a D1 restricted licence for social and pleasure use. If you are being paid to drive a minibus (i.e. for hire of reward) you will need to pass a PCV test.

Passing a test using a vehicle with an automatic gear box means you won’t be entitled to drive a manual transmission.

Holders of a PCV automatic licence can upgrade to an all-types licence by sitting a test on a manual coach, or get two licences at the same time, as passing on LGV C will also upgrade the automatic licence.

How to obtain Provisional LGV/PCV entitlement

You will need a vocational licence application pack which we would be pleased to send to you by post, or you can collect from our office or from a large post office.

The pack includes the following:
